Community Connections

*This program was suspended in 2020 due to Covid-19. We hope to reinstate it soon. *

There are many students who for a variety of reasons could benefit from another adult in their lives whom they can talk to and who take an interest in them. Community Connections pairs students who would benefit from additional adult company with (fully vetted and trained) adults in the community.

At least once a month, the adult takes the student they are paired with out to lunch, or to a community play, or movie, or other activity (funded by ABC up to $20 per month). In addition, the adult will be reimbursed a little extra to help celebrate their student’s birthday.

MCHS rolled out this program in Fall 2019 with a pilot involving 3 students and mentors. In order to expand this program, MCHS needs to find adults interested in becoming positive role models in the lives of high school students. Might you be one?

The role involves a little prep work up front and then spending time at least once a month with your designated student. This has the potential of being an immensely enriching volunteer opportunity.
